STAGE 13 - CASTROJERíZ - "High On A Mountaint Top..."
Today was Sunday. We are eight hours ahead of our ward (our meetings start at 9pm). So we decided to go out on a walk up the mountain where the castle/fortress is located. I talked a little bit about this castle in the last post. It was a very nice climb to the top. The hymn "High on a Mountain Top" kept running through my head as we climbed and experienced the winds whipping around us.
High on the mountain top
A banner is unfurled.
Ye nations, now look up;
It waves to all the world.
In Deseret's sweet, peaceful land,
On Zion's mount behold it stand!
There is something beautiful about being high above the valley taking in the fields, the towns, the churches, and the mountain ranges. It was a wonderful moment with Jannette. Here is what we saw...
The photo below shows you the path that we will take toward Frómista...
On the way down from the mountain we stopped at the Iglesia de San Juan Bautista. At first, we couldn't get into the church and started to walk back to our hotel. Then suddenly the church bells began to ring like crazy. So we turned around and went back to the church. It was open. It was a lovely building. The priest was getting things set up for mass. While we were there the organist began to practice. It was delightful to sit and listen...
Here is the church's lovely Baroque organ!
